Neutral Grounding Resistors (NGR) — Limit Ground-Fault Currents, Secure Your Power System

In the daily operation of distribution and generation systems, a single line-to-ground fault is the most common failure. If arcing occurs at the fault point and is not cleared promptly, it can rapidly expand insulation damage in the stator windings—even causing the iron core to burn and sinter—and eventually escalate into catastrophic phase-to-phase or turn-to-turn short circuits. To fundamentally resolve this issue, the international power industry widely adopts Neutral Grounding Resistors (NGR), effectively limiting ground-fault currents to prevent various overvoltage hazards, with a proven track record of successful operation.

Sunwin is a leading brand dedicated to the R&D and manufacturing of neutral grounding devices for power systems. We provide global clients with high-quality Generator Neutral Grounding Resistor complete sets and Transformer Neutral Grounding Resistor (NGR) cabinets. Our products fully meet the stringent thermal and electrical performance requirements of power system neutrals, featuring high temperature tolerance, high resistivity, a low resistance temperature coefficient, high tensile strength, and excellent toughness. They are dedicated complete-set equipment for 0.4kV to 65kV power systems.

Core Advantages: Why Choose Sunwin NGRs?

• Broad Compatibility with Grounding Methods: Perfectly adapts to various neutral grounding methods in 6–35kV AC grids, including ungrounded, arc-suppression coil grounded, and high/medium/low-resistance grounded systems.

• Superior Electrical Performance: The NGR cabinet offers stable performance, high temperature tolerance, strong current-carrying capacity, and long duty cycles. It can be equipped with Current Transformers (CTs) to provide analog outputs for protection and monitoring systems.

• Flexible System Expansion: As standard products, our NGR cabinets can operate in parallel with resistors or reactors. This facilitates easy future expansion and capacity upgrades—ideal for grids that start small and later require gradually reduced grounding resistance.

• High Customizability: Beyond common specifications (for 6kV, 10kV, 35kV, and 66kV systems), we design and manufacture custom resistors to order. Resistance values range from 1Ω to 2000Ω, with allowable currents from 1A to 2000A. Resistance tolerance is controlled within ±3%, and allowable current durations support 10s, 15s, 30s, 60s, and 2 hours.

Typical Technical Parameters (Partial)

6.3kV System: Short-time current 100A~600A, nominal resistance 6.06Ω~36.36Ω.

10.5kV System: Short-time current 400A~1000A, nominal resistance 6.06Ω~15.16Ω.

35kV System: Short-time current 1000A~2000A, nominal resistance 10.10Ω~20.20Ω.
(Note: Standard short-time duration is 10s; deep customization is available based on project requirements.)

Strict Compliance with International and National Standards

Sunwin ensures every device has a verifiable compliance basis. Our design, manufacturing, and testing strictly follow:

●        Core Product Standards: DL/T 780-2001 (Neutral Grounding Resistors in Distribution Systems), JB/T 10777-2018 (Neutral Grounding Resistors), and IEEE Std 32 (Technical, Terminology, and Testing Requirements for Neutral Grounding Devices).

●        Supporting & Safety Standards: Including GB 6450 (Dry-type Power Transformers), DL/T 620 (Overvoltage Protection and Insulation Coordination), GB 763 (Heating of AC High-voltage Apparatus), GB/T 16927 (High-voltage Test Techniques), GB 1208 (Current Transformers), GB/T 4208 (Degrees of Protection - IP Code), GB 311 (Insulation Coordination), and GB 11022 (Common Specifications for High-voltage Switchgear).

Designed for Harsh Operating Environments

Altitude: Up to 3000m.

Ambient Temperature: -30°C to +50°C; Relative Humidity: ≤95% (at 25°C).

Installation Site: Free from chemically corrosive gases, vapors, and explosive dust; suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations.

Grid Frequency: Fully compatible with 48–52Hz (50Hz systems) and 58–62Hz (60Hz systems).

Displacement Control: Under normal conditions, the neutral displacement does not exceed 3% of the operating phase voltage.

Easy Inspection and Maintenance Guide

Sunwin Transformer Neutral Grounding Resistor cabinets are highly reliable and generally do not require dedicated power outage maintenance. We recommend conducting inspections during scheduled main transformer or busbar maintenance outages, strictly following safety protocols:

●        Disconnect the NGR cabinet from the system.

●        Open the cabinet door and visually inspect for any abnormalities.

●        Perform cleaning procedures.

●        Check for damaged insulators and bushings; use a megohmmeter to verify bushing insulation.

●        Check the integrity of resistor elements and measure the resistance value (the measured value should be within a 10% tolerance).

●        Check internal connections for reliability.

●        Inspect and verify the tightness of all bolts.
